Urban Walks for Public Art

Choose from four different routes featuring timeless works of art installed in public spaces during both the socialist and capitalist eras.

Sculpture and the City of Liberec

The golden 1960s, especially towards the end of the decade, marked a boom in Czech culture. This period saw remarkable achievements not only in film, literature, and architecture but also in public art.

Intruders and Decoys of Liberec

Between 1965 and 1989, a law known as the “four-percent rule” required that 1–4% of a public building’s budget be allocated to artistic design. This led to an influx of sculptures and artworks integrated into Liberec’s urban landscape.

The Intruders of the Ještěd Spaceship

The construction of the Ještěd TV Tower and Hotel (1963–1973) remains the most acclaimed Czech architectural achievement built since World War II.

The Grand Tour – Connecting All Routes

The Grand Tour combines all three routes, offering a comprehensive exploration of public art in Liberec, covering Sculpture and the City, Intruders and Decoys, and The Intruders of the Ještěd Spaceship.
