Bike ride route: 

Liberec – Stráž nad Nisou – Horní Chrastava – Chrastava – Andělská Hora – transbordér – Machnín - Liberec

Set out from Liberec along bike trail no. 3065 to Stráž nad Nisou and ride through Horní Chrastava into Chrastava itself. On a rise to the right above the river you’ll see the Church of St. Lawrence, which contains several altar paintings by local artists, as well as the Zuzana – a decorated tower bell dating from 1601, weighing around a ton. A short distance from there, along the Jeřice, you’ll reach your destination – the Fire Brigade Museum. The museum was founded to mark the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the local volunteer fire brigade and the historical firefighting equipment on display forms one of the biggest exhibitions of its kind in the Czech Republic.

After a look around this peaceful little town, ride back to Liberec along the Ondra-Nisa long-distance cycle route no. 14, which runs from the Fire Brigade Museum past the railway station and through the village of Andělská Hora. The factories here are a relic of the textile industry, which used to be very dominant here, too.  It’s certainly worth stopping for a while under the ruins of Hamrštejn castle by the local transporter bridge over the Lusatian Neisse to add a bit of variety to the trip. From the transporter bridge continue along Ondra-Nisa bike trail no. 20. Turn right at the crossroads in Machnín, go past the post office along the Ondra-Nisa bike trail no. 14, which takes you past the riding school and the small Museum of Paper Beauty. Ride into the centre of Liberec along bike trail no. 14A, which goes past the Slovan F.C. stadium back into Liberec town centre.
