Boveraclub takes care of the Bovera (amongst other things)

For more than 30 years now the Boveraclub association in Liberec has been working to preserve historical trams, and on special occasions (generally such as public holidays) you can even admire these beautiful machines in the city’s streets. You can of course book yourself a ride through the association and take a journey on trams such as the no. 78 from 1929, known as “Bovera”, or the equally amazing tram no. 117 from 1953. And if you don’t happen to see any trams in the streets, you can go and take a look at them in the Liberec Technical Museum. It’s well worth it.

Historical tram rides

  • Public rides – generally on public holidays (an overview of times is attached).
  • Private rides – you can also book a private ride (see contact details).

Interesting facts

  • Liberec’s first line, dating from 1897, is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic and ran from the railway station to the Městský lesík station (now the Botanical Gardens stop). It was unusual for the time that the tram ran on the right-hand side.
  • The original track gauge was 1000 mm – trams now run on a gauge of 1435 mm. Liberec is the only city in the Czech Republic where trams also run on the original gauge, which is why there are three tracks running through the city instead of the usual two.
  • Rare intercity – the intercity tram line from Liberec to Jablonec is one of only 4 intercity tram lines in the Czech Republic
  • The highest stop – Liberec-Horní Hanychov is the highest tram stop in the Czech Republic (522 m a.s.l.).
  • Tram in front of the Town Hall – trams also used to run past the Town Hall. Up through Moskevská ulice, down through Pražská. The tracks are still in place today.
