Hidden beauties of the Lusatian Mountains

Length of the route: 158 kilometres

Ride time: approximately 3.5 hour

Do you love hidden places, narrow roads and villages where tourism almost does not exist at all? That is exactly what border area of the Lusatian Mountains can offer. However, they do not offer only just that, you can enjoy the fast rides and especially the breathtaking nature there.

Today we are heading straight northbound again. Take the E442 expressway from Liberec towards Děčín and at the outskirts take the No. 13 road and follow the traffic signs towards Habartice and Frýdlant. The road will take you to Mníšek (point 1), there follow the traffic signs towards Frýdlant.

Before you ride into Albrechtice (point 2), you will see wind farms on the left, which will become the

main navigation point for your ride. Not very far behind the pub in Albrechtice turn left and follow them and ride past them to Horní Vítkov. The brave ones of you can climb up to the wind farm, there’s a great view to the nearby country from that place. Ride through Horní Vítkov, Dolní Vítkov and a bit behind it turn right and follow the traffic signs towards Václavice (point 3). Enjoy ride on the narrow roads with good surface and minimum traffic. Then ride under the No. 35 expressway  behind Václavice and continue your ride past Grabštejn Castle; follow the traffic signs towards Hrádek nad Nisou (point 4). There in the very centre, at the lower half of Horní Square turn right in front of the Kamelot restaurant. Beyond the river turn left and follow a white sign to the right to Dolní Sedlo a few hundred metres farther. And there another forgotten road starts climbing up the hill to the Horolezecká lodge and then falling down through Černá Louže to Rynoltice (point 5).

Find the No. 13 main road in Rynoltice and take that road to turn right towards Děčín. We recommend you to make a stop at the nearby Lemberk Castle, which you can hardly fail to notice on the road. You will find yourself at a well-signed intersection a couple of kilometres further, turn right there towards Mařenice (point 6). At the outskirts of Mařenice take the main road to the right towards Trávník and over the bridge continue you ride straight ahead towards Krompach. Ride through Juliovka and then continue through Dolní Světlá and Horní Světlá (point 7). There you are really at the end of the world, close to the border of Germany. Stop for a while and enjoy that unusual and unique tranquility. Continue your ride along the main road from Horní Světlá until you reach the No. 9 road connecting Nový Bor with Rumburk. Turn right in the direction of Rumburk and you will reach the roundabout after riding further 4 kilometres; there take the turn to Jiřetín pod Jedlovou. Ride right there and just at the outskirts of the village turn left and first ride to the ruins of Tolštejn Castle and then to Jedlová look-out tower. You can enjoy the view of the whole Lusatian Mountains from the top of the look-out tower and with good visibility you can watch also a substantial part of northern Bohemia.

Return from Jedlová to Jiřetín and then take the No. 9 road to the right towards Prague. Not very far from the crossroads where you came from Horní Světlá turn right towards Kytlice (point 8). Continue

your ride along a narrow road along Kamenice River through Mlýny to the outskirts of Česká Kamenice (point 9). There you will come across the No. 13 road at the bridge, then turn left towards

Liberec, but just after riding less than a kilometre turn left and follow the traffic signs towards Prysk. And again, you will ride through a narrow road along the stream, through villages that are worth a seeing till the roads will drop you to the No. 13 road again next to Horní Prysk (point 10). There is a large parking lot directly opposite you, we recommend you to stop for a break and visit the Panská skála rock - a unique basalt organ known from many films including famous Pyšná princezna fairytale.

Well, there our wandering through forgotten places ends for today. It is time to return to Liberec

along the No. 13 road. The wide clear road will take you around Nový Bor and through Cvikov (point 11), around Jablonné v Podještědí back to Rynoltice and then it is only a short way back to Liberec. You do not want to end the day yet, right? Set your navigation to the Museum and head to the town centre. Unfortunately, Severočeské muzeum has been scheduled for a long term reconstruction since 2018, but a few metres away you can find the ever developing Technical Museum of Liberec, which is definitely worth a visit and every lover of motorcycles and of machines generally will definitely enjoy it. Liberec can offer much more to you, of course. Stop at the City Information Centre near the City Hall, pick a map and let the staff to suggest you where to go and what nearby places to visit.
