Riding around southern bulge of the territory

Length of the route: 54 kilometres

Ride time: approximately 1.5 hours

Arelatively short but very entertaining journey starts in Zittau and takes you towards Lückendorf. You can ride on this route after working hours or you can use it as an extension of another trip from our offer. From Zittau, take the Friedenstrasse past the Mandaukaserne (former barracks), then turn right onto the Südstrasse towards Eichgraben (point 1). One of the oldest race tracks in Germany begins at the exit from Eichgraben (point 2) and ends at „Forstahaus“ in Lückendorf. Uphill races are held there regularly in August, and in addition to motorcycle races, there are also races of touringcars and sportscars, and races of sidecars are held there as a special attraction bonus. A 3.6 kilometres of highquality road is ahead of you, which is really rich of bends and turns and runs mostly through the forest. On your way, you will ride past the ruins of Karlsfried Castle.

Take the first turn right at the junction (point 3) at Lückendorf and continue your ride around the highest point of Sudetenblick (there is a marked gate with a map of particular hills there), where you can see ravishing views of Bohemian territory under conditions of good visibility. We recommend to take a break there and enjoy a look at the Lusatian Mountains from this side, or have a coffee in a nearby restaurant.

Beyond Lückendorf there is a steep downhill ride ahead of you through the area called Kammloch. Do not pull the gas throttle there and ride slowly, you will have a chance to see some interesting rock formations such as Kelchstein (mushroom shaped “Chalice Rock”). After a steep downhill ride, the spa town of Oybin, with a monastery ruin on the rock, will welcome you. There we can take a break and enjoy one of many cafes to see this unique relic. After a short break, you will have to return back a bit on the way you came to Oybin. At the crossroads (point 4) in the forest turn right, towards Jonsdorf. There is a nice curly road with rocks and picturesque landscapes ahead of you.

The spa town of Jonsdorf (point 5) offers a pleasant refreshment in the forest swimming pool. The Butterfly House is a great local attraction; besides dozens of butterflies you can find also reptiles, spiders and a small marine aquarium there. When passing through Jonsdorf, follow the roadsigns towards Waltersdorf (point 6). Local residents love history, so you can find the Museum of Milling and Folklore and the adjacent Natural Science Museum there.

Then continue your ride to Großschönau (point 7). This town offers several interesting places worth a visit. We definitely recommend to visit the Technical Motorcycle Veterans Museum to every true biker. In addition, there is also the Museum of Damask and Terry Cloth Production. When riding through the town centre then take a roundabout on the right and follow the roadsigns towards Hainewalde (point 8), there is a nice bunch of turns and bends ahead of you.

Turn right and follow the roadsigns in Hainewalde, cross Mandau River and then there is only a short trip back to Zittau ahead of you, so follow the roadsigns. When entering Zittau, you can turn right at Kaufland (point 9), beyond which is a large park with Westpark pond, where you can stop if you want a moment of calm and relaxation. Beyond that you will find the Olbersdorfer See lake and enjoy the opportunity for swimming there.
