Weather booth as a symbol of prestige

When it was first built, our weather booth was a symbol of prestige, as only a wealthy town could afford such a luxury. A collection was even held, with funds donated by lots of local residents, associations, the town, the savings bank and the affluent factory tycoons Liebieg and Ginzkey.

The Lambrecht station forecasts the weather

This valuable feat of engineering was made by the well-known meteorologist Wilhelm Lambrecht from Göttingen, who built weather stations for major cities throughout Europe. Our six-sided weather booth is designed in homage to the Town Hall tower; the plinth is made from Liberec granite and the canopy is decorated with sunflowers. The booth contains Lambrecht's polymeter, a recording thermometer, a maximum-minimum thermometer, a thermohygroscope and a holosteric barometer. In the twentieth century, several repairs were made to the building and the measuring instruments. The weather booth was declared a cultural heritage site in 1987.
