Vulpes guards the town hall

The sculpture “VULPES GOTT Dratoslav von Mischling or SLÁVEK” by František Skála author has been newly installed in front of the Liberec Town Hall. The seven-meter long wire hybrid is inspired by two graphics by Max Švabinský, where a similar creature watches the act of taking from the cross and the Pietà.

Art in front of the Town Hall

In this place of honour, in full view of everyone, artworks rotate on the corner by the Town Hall ever year or so. If we take a somewhat non-chronological look back, we have to admit that the Martian landed here for a while, followed by the Meteorite a few years after him. We’ve already had a bronze Horseman, Cats, Birds and a seven-metre-tall crossbreed called Slávek. The crystal Sublime has gushed out of the pavement, the head of V-thought has emerged, and space has been given over to the Chair, Asymbiont, a work hard to describe, as well as the Sixth Space - that the transparent cube with bits of trees, branches and leaves. One life-changing event was commemorated by the Revolution sign, composed of 85,000 keys, Josephine Baker danced for us here for a short while, and the sculptures of Olbram Zoubek engaged in a rather longer debate. At night, Mr. Red's head shone here, and David Cerny's Quo Vadis Trabant walked over on all fours. And what's up next? We’ll have to wait and see!
