Elementary Art School
Liberec Elementary Art School is a place where children are taught music, literature and drama, dance, and art. The building itself is designed in a playful arty style, so it’s no wonder that it was declared Building of the Year in 1995.
Playful art
The postmodern Elementary Art School (ZUŠ) was built in 1994-1995 and was designed by P. Janoušek, P. Švancer, B. Šonský and P. Vaněček. The narrow facade of the building transitions into the side walls set with the large windows of the individual classrooms and studios. The rear of the building consists of a central cylinder, flanked by blocks on both sides. These features, together with the red bands running along the walls and the alternating square and round windows, give the building a nice light-hearted touch.
