Ridgetrail← Back to listing
The idea of creating a long distance hiking route over the mountain massifs in
northern Bohemia dates back more than one hundred years. The longest marked
ridge trail in Bohemia was the so-called Blue Ridgetrail. At the peak of its fame,
it ran from Blankenstein over the Sala river in Germany, across the Czech border
highlands, from the Ore Mountains to Mt. Praděd.
The project of the Ridgetrail brings a modern approach for the part of this trail
running through the Liberec Region and Gorlitz County, and connects attractive
places in the highest parts of the Jizera Mountains, the Lusatian Mountains and
the Zittau Mountains, the Černa Studnice ridge as well as the Ještěd-Kozakov
ridge in two corridors – the southern and the northern. There are three independent
trails marked for hikers, cyclists and cross-country skiers in the terrain,
which offer leisure time options for families with children and active sportsmen
throughout the year.
The Liberec Region is labelled as a paradise for tourists, skiers, nature entusiasts,
and history lovers. There have been many unique log houses and a functional
system of lookout towers preserved in the region.
You can admire volcanic peaks, sandstone formations resembling characters from
fairy tales, the historic town centre of Zittau and Upper Lusatian half-timbered
houses on the neighbouring German side, in the newest Saxony nature park
- the Zittau Mountains Nature Park.
Much better than tempting reading is to get to know the Ridgetrail personally.
Therefore, come to the mountains and see everything for yourselves!
